Top Exuma Wedding Venues
Unreal turquoise water, sandbars and cays, luxury villas, swimming pigs, and the most cinematic photography conditions in The Bahamas.
I'm Glenn Ferguson, a Licensed Bahamas Marriage Officer and WPIC-certified wedding planner. After 24+ years of officiating and planning weddings across the Bahamas, I can tell you Exuma delivers something genuinely different from Nassau or Paradise Island, more private, more raw, more cinematic. If you're dreaming about a true Caribbean beach wedding with unreal turquoise water, powder-soft sand, and a more untouched island atmosphere, Exuma is hard to beat.
This is where couples come when they want secluded beaches, luxury villas, sandbars and cays, yacht-style experiences, barefoot elegance, and the water color that makes destination wedding photography legendary. Here are the venues I recommend most.

Grand Isle Resort and Residences
Emerald Bay, Great Exuma · Luxury Villa Resort · Medium-to-large groups
The strongest full-service luxury wedding venue currently operating in Exuma. Grand Isle sits beside Emerald Bay on Great Exuma and offers stunning beachfront ceremony space, luxury villa accommodations (so the wedding party stays together rather than dispersed across hotel rooms), and the most developed wedding infrastructure on the island. With the closure of Sandals Emerald Bay next door, Grand Isle is currently the de facto leader for Emerald Bay-area weddings.
The Exuma Outpost
Forbes Hill, Little Exuma · Private Villa · Up to 12 guests on-property
If you want a truly private beachfront villa wedding, this is one of the best options in all of The Bahamas. A 6-bedroom villa on a secluded cove on Little Exuma, walking distance to the legendary Tropic of Cancer Beach, the property accommodates up to 12 guests on-site with additional beachfront homes available within walking distance for larger wedding parties. The Outpost has hosted experiential events for Condé Nast, Sony, Veuve Clicquot, and Nike, a useful signal of the production level the team can support. Sandbar weddings, courtyard pool ceremonies, and rooftop sky-deck receptions are all in their repertoire.
Sandals Emerald Bay → Beaches Exuma
Emerald Bay, Great Exuma · Status: Closed for transformation · Not currently bookable
For two decades, Sandals Emerald Bay was the headline name in Exuma destination weddings, beachfront luxury, golf, all-inclusive convenience, and the recognizable Sandals wedding infrastructure. The bones are spectacular: 6,000+ feet of shoreline, the Greg Norman-designed 18-hole Emerald Bay golf course (retained), and the Red Lane Spa (retained).
While the property is closed, Grand Isle Resort and Residences sits immediately beside it on Emerald Bay and offers a comparable luxury beachfront experience right now. For all-inclusive weddings, Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau is the operating Sandals option in The Bahamas.
Baymahni Resort
Stocking Island, Exuma · New Boutique Luxury · Private-island setting · Opened 2025
Baymahni is Exuma's newest luxury boutique experience, a 40-acre private resort and residential community on Stocking Island that opened October 2025. The property combines exclusive beach and lagoon villas with the kind of personalized service usually reserved for far more expensive Caribbean destinations. Access is exclusively by boat (free water taxi from George Town, every 30 minutes), which gives the property a genuine private-island feel without the private-island price tag. The Beach Club kitchen is purpose-built for island-scale weddings and events.
Embrace Resort
Staniel Cay, Exuma Cays · 7-Villa Boutique · 5 min from Pig Beach
Located in Staniel Cay, Embrace gives couples direct access to one of the most iconic areas in the Exumas. This Bahamian-owned 7-villa boutique sits 5 minutes from the world-famous Pig Beach (swimming pigs) and just minutes from Thunderball Grotto. The property has been planning weddings for 15+ years with multiple package tiers including a popular sandbar wedding option (transportation from Staniel Cay handled). For couples who want boating, cays, swimming pigs, and adventure woven into the wedding experience, nothing else in Exuma comes close.
Exuma Point Beach Resort
Rolleville, Great Exuma · Beachfront Villa Cluster · 13 villas · ½ mile from Pig Island
A relaxed beachfront venue with authentic Exuma charm at the northern tip of Rolleville on Great Exuma. Thirteen newly built villas sit along three miles of white sand beachfront, with the on-site Exuma Point Beach Bar & Grill anchoring receptions. The property markets itself as a private event venue, and the famous Sunday buffet is a fun anchor for welcome dinners or post-wedding brunches. Half a mile from a quieter pig population, away from the Staniel Cay crowds.
The Salt House
Forbes Hill, Little Exuma · 4-Bedroom Luxury Villa · Sleeps 8
One of the hidden gems of Little Exuma. The Salt House is a chic 4-bedroom beachfront villa on a private cove with 300 yards of white sand, a 3-bedroom main house plus a separate beachfront cottage, infinity pool, poolside bar, and modern coastal design that photographs beautifully. The villa is in Forbes Hill on Little Exuma, walking distance to The Exuma Outpost (which means you can rent both for larger guest counts). About a mile from Tropic of Cancer Beach. The kind of venue couples choose when they want their wedding to feel exclusive, highly curated, and editorial.
Paradise Bay Bahamas
Steventon, Great Exuma · French-Bahamian Boutique · ~$200-$300/night
Paradise Bay delivers a more relaxed boutique beach wedding atmosphere with charming private cottages and easy access to Exuma's famous water. Located on a 1.2-mile beach protected by a natural coral reef between Steventon and Rokers Point on Great Exuma, the property is genuinely affordable for the area (cottages typically run $200-$300/night) and has a Franco-Bahamian on-site restaurant, Cocoplum Bistro, that handles intimate receptions well. Paradise Bay offers wedding planning support including European-partner help for couples handling paperwork from overseas.
Chat 'N' Chill Beach Bar & Grill
Stocking Island · Iconic Beach Bar · Reception venue (not lodging)
For couples wanting a fun, laid-back Exuma experience, Chat 'N' Chill on Stocking Island creates a totally different wedding atmosphere from traditional resorts. Think beach bonfires, casual receptions, island music, conch salad pulled fresh from the bar, and the authentic Exuma energy that's made this place legendary. Real couples have been holding receptions here for years, usually after the ceremony at a nearby beach or sandbar.
The Breakwater House
Farmer's Hill, Great Exuma · 6-Bedroom Villa · Sleeps 20 · 6 min from airport
A 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom villa in Farmer's Hill on Great Exuma, sleeps 20, 3,200 square feet, heated pool with swim-up bar, on a sandy secluded beach with consistent top-tier guest reviews. Six minutes from Exuma International Airport (one of the most convenient locations on the island) and four minutes from Three Sisters Beach and Emerald Bay Beach. For couples wanting villa-style flexibility with more bedrooms than The Salt House or The Exuma Outpost on Little Exuma, The Breakwater is the strongest match on Great Exuma.
My personal advice
When you're planning a wedding in Exuma, logistics matter more than most couples realize. Boat transportation, vendor coordination, weather timing, accommodation planning, and inter-island travel all need local experience and careful execution. Exuma weddings can feel effortlessly magical or unnecessarily stressful depending on how they're planned. What I'd be thinking about:
- Which island, Great, Little, Stocking, or Staniel Cay
- Airport choice, GGT for most venues, ELH-only for Staniel
- Sandbar timing, tides dictate ceremony hours
- Inter-island transport, boats, ferries, charters
- Vendor availability, fewer vendors than Nassau
- Weather backup, what happens if the boat can't run
- Photography light, Atlantic-side vs Caribbean-side
- Guest stamina, how much travel can they handle
After 24+ years helping couples marry throughout The Bahamas, I can help create an Exuma wedding experience that feels smooth, luxurious, and unforgettable from the moment you arrive, and avoid the costly mistakes that often happen when planning a remote-island wedding from overseas.
FAQ: Exuma wedding venues
Is Sandals Emerald Bay still open for weddings?
No. Sandals Emerald Bay closed on August 15, 2024 to undergo a $100 million transformation and will reopen as Beaches Exuma, Sandals' family-friendly brand, and the first Beaches Resort in The Bahamas. As of late 2025, a deal had been reached with the Bahamian government with groundbreaking projected for Q1 2026, but no public reopening date for Beaches Exuma has been confirmed. Couples cannot currently book a wedding at the property. Grand Isle Resort and Residences sits beside Emerald Bay and offers a similar luxury beachfront experience in the meantime, see venue #1 above.
How do you get to Exuma for a wedding?
Most couples fly into Exuma International Airport (GGT) in George Town on Great Exuma, with direct flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Charlotte, Toronto, and Nassau. For Staniel Cay (Embrace Resort), most guests connect through Nassau or take Makers Air from Fort Lauderdale. For Stocking Island venues (Baymahni, Chat 'N' Chill), it's a short water taxi from George Town. Allow extra travel time for inter-island transfers, I'll map the cleanest plan for your guests.
Can I have a sandbar wedding in Exuma?
Yes, sandbar weddings are one of the most photographed Exuma wedding traditions. Several venues offer it as part of their packages: Embrace Resort on Staniel Cay runs a sandbar ceremony with boat transportation, and The Exuma Outpost on Little Exuma can arrange sandbar ceremonies via private charter. Most sandbars are tide-dependent, so timing matters. I'll help match the right sandbar to your ceremony hour.
What's the best Exuma wedding venue?
For luxury infrastructure and larger groups, Grand Isle Resort and Residences. For private villa weddings of up to 12 guests, The Exuma Outpost on Little Exuma. For brand-new boutique luxury on a private-island setting, Baymahni on Stocking Island. For Staniel Cay weddings with the swimming pigs in proximity, Embrace Resort. The right answer depends on guest count, budget, and how much you value privacy.
Great Exuma vs Little Exuma vs Staniel Cay, which is best for a wedding?
Great Exuma is the main island, most flights, most resort infrastructure, most vendors. Grand Isle, Paradise Bay, Exuma Point, and The Breakwater House are here. Little Exuma is connected by a short bridge, quieter, more remote, home to the legendary Tropic of Cancer Beach. The Exuma Outpost and The Salt House are in Forbes Hill on Little Exuma. Staniel Cay is a separate small island deeper in the Exuma Cays, home to Embrace Resort, the swimming pigs at Pig Beach, and Thunderball Grotto. Stocking Island sits just across the harbor from George Town, home to Baymahni and Chat 'N' Chill, reached by water taxi.
Can I get married near the swimming pigs?
Yes. Pig Beach is on Big Major Cay, just minutes from Staniel Cay by boat. Embrace Resort on Staniel Cay is 5 minutes from Pig Beach and routinely arranges ceremonies with the famous swimming pigs nearby. Couples typically marry on a quieter sandbar or at Pirate Trap Beach, then visit the pigs for photos. Exuma Point Beach Resort in Rolleville is also just 1/2 mile from a separate pig population if you'd prefer to base on Great Exuma.
Can Glenn Ferguson officiate at Exuma wedding venues?
Yes. As a Licensed Bahamas Marriage Officer, I legally officiate ceremonies anywhere in The Bahamas, including Great Exuma, Little Exuma, Stocking Island, Staniel Cay, and any private sandbar. Some properties have in-house wedding teams; I work as the legal officiant alongside those teams, or as the planning lead for couples who want a single point of contact rather than coordinating from overseas.
What's the best month for a wedding in Exuma?
Mid-November through April is peak season, drier, calmer water, lower humidity, best photography light. May and June are shoulder months with strong weather and better availability. July through October is hurricane season; many couples still marry then with weather flexibility built into the plan. Exuma's water clarity is best from April through July.
